B2B SALES RESEARCH / METHODOLOGY & QA HUB

B2B Sales Research Methodology & Quality Assurance

Useful research is a decision process, not a spreadsheet of company names. This hub connects the evidence checks, failure states, client approval and feedback rules behind account research so a buyer can review exactly what the research claims—and what it does not.

Direct answer

How does D2 check the quality of researched B2B accounts?

D2 structures B2B Sales Research around an agreed five-part client brief (Target, Exclusion, Buyer, Timing and Sales Reality), then checks company identity, source freshness, ICP fit, observed business events, buyer functions and available contact evidence before handoff. Each account should have an explicit review disposition and unresolved gaps rather than be assumed to represent buying intent. The exact accepted-record gates and delivery frequency are agreed per brief; research acceptance is not sales conversion or permission to email.

This is the B2B-specific research workflow, not D2's company-wide methodology, an independently audited certification, or proof that each proposed account has a budget or current demand.

Seven traceable research checkpoints

Select a checkpoint to inspect the original deep-dive methodology, source limitations and acceptance logic. Each linked cluster has a distinct question and canonical intent.

  1. 01 / Intake and acceptance contract

Confirm Target, Exclusion, Buyer, Timing and Sales Reality before discovery. Specify hard gates, research unit, contact requirements and what constitutes an accepted account. Client approval is distinct from a generic ICP template.

  2. 02 / Company identity and CRM exclusion

Research legal entity, country, domain, group/subsidiary relation and client-approved exclusions. Record EXCLUDE, REVIEW or RESEARCHABLE, with ambiguous identity held instead of falsely declaring NET_NEW.

    Review the detailed method
  3. 03 / Source and freshness verification

Keep observed facts, publisher, URL, event date, publication date and last-check date where available. Note conflicts, paywalled or missing source fields and avoid attributing a claim to an unverified origin.

    Review the detailed method
  4. 04 / Signals and commercial relevance hypothesis

Check dated public events against the seller's real offer and ICP. A facility investment, hiring notice or expansion can indicate context, not a confirmed budget, procurement decision or sales opportunity.

    Review the detailed method
  5. 05 / Buyer route and contact quality

Map buyer function and procurement roles; distinguish named people, verified DIRECT business emails, general mailboxes and unresolved contact GAP. A functional buyer hypothesis is not a verified individual.

  6. 06 / Self-QA, disposition and handoff

Evaluate each record against agreed gates. Separate ICP_FIT from contact-complete handoff; record PASS, HOLD or REJECT with dated evidence, reason and next check. No QA result automatically authorizes outreach.

    Review the detailed method
  7. 07 / Sales review and next research batch

Collect accept/hold/reject reasons from the client's Sales team, including duplicates, weak evidence, wrong buyer or timing. Adjust only within a revised approved brief and scoped monthly cadence.

QUALITY DISPOSITION

How to read quality and gap states

The exact vocabulary can vary by approved customer acceptance criteria. Do not collapse company fit, contact completeness or permission to contact into one score.

FIT / RESEARCHABLE

Observed account attributes match applicable ICP conditions, pending the separately agreed evidence and handoff gates.

PASS / ACCEPTED

The record satisfies the specific signed research brief's acceptance requirements. It does not indicate that a deal was booked or that outbound has been approved.

HOLD / GAP

Evidence, legal entity identity, exclusion status, buyer or contact completeness is unresolved. Keep the missing field and review owner visible.

NOT_FIT / REJECT

A confirmed hard exclusion, incompatible use case or failed research acceptance condition requires the record to be rejected with a reason.

Research acceptance, CRM exclusion, contact completeness and outreach authorization are separate decisions.

FAQ

Methodology and acceptance FAQ

Does a passing research record mean the company is actively buying?

No. Company fit and source-backed signals help Sales prioritize investigation. Procurement intent, budget and purchase timing remain unconfirmed unless separately evidenced.

Can D2 accept an account with no verified direct business email?

Only if the client-approved handoff explicitly permits that gap. If a direct email is a hard gate, the account should be held or rejected rather than counted as contact-complete.

Can Sales compare research outputs across different projects?

Only after comparing the definitions, ICP difficulty, required contact fields, review window and denominators. One pilot's QA acceptance rate is not a performance guarantee for another.

PUBLIC FIRST-PARTY QA / DISTINCT COHORTS

First-party QA references versus illustrative formats

Two previously published anonymized research groups show how a review can withhold records. They are distinct denominators, not outcome or conversion benchmarks. Illustrative samples are not verified buyer accounts.

Anonymized research pilot

55 researched → 24 ICP-fit → 15 accepted

The nine other ICP-fit records were held for direct-contact gaps. Counts belong to one pilot; they are not expected output or response rate for a different brief.

Review evidence and limitations

Separate quality-review cohort

100 reviewed → 43 SALES_READY

The remaining 57 were not marked SALES_READY in that distinct QA exercise. Do not treat 43% as sales conversion, meetings or a guaranteed readiness rate.
