B2B SALES RESEARCH / EXPORT SELLERS

Find distributors and importers that fit your product—not everyone listed as an importer.

Export manufacturers and B2B brands need partner accounts grounded in product category, wholesale channel and destination geography. D2 researches company identity, portfolio evidence and buyer roles. A catalogue match never proves willingness to onboard another supplier.

Vietnam-supported B2B research; other-country briefs require feasibility review. All examples on this page are illustrative, not actual D2 client assignments or verified buyer intent.

Seller → target account / direct answer

Who hires D2, and which companies should D2 research for them?

The industry of the seller is not automatically the industry of its target customer.

Company buying D2 research

What does the seller offer?

Manufacturers, exporters, OEM/ODM suppliers and brands seeking importer, dealer, wholesale or distributor relationships.

Accounts to research

Who might purchase that offer?

Category-relevant importing firms, distributors, wholesalers and B2B channel buyers in the selected market.

Important exclusion: A similar-looking brand can be a competitor, a distributor with exclusive supply, a retail-only seller or a company without relevant import authorization.

Sales reality / qualification

Where ordinary prospecting lists fall short

Generic importer directories provide names but little on product categories, purchasing roles, territory, current suppliers or regulatory fit. Cross-border research must check whether local sources and contacts are discoverable.

ICP and exclusion gates to agree

01

Set product category, packaging, technical standards, certifications, order size and intended channel.

02

Distinguish importer of record, wholesaler, distributor, dealer, sourcing agent and end-account.

03

Verify active product portfolio, territory, website, business identity and buying function.

04

Exclude current partners, competitor-owned channels, unsupported destination markets and product-incompatible firms.

Evidence / timing / inference

Which business events could justify deeper investigation?

D2 checks dated evidence and relevance. An observed change never automatically means an approved purchase.

SIGNAL 01

Relevant product catalogue

A dated product range may show sector fit, but it does not establish that the distributor is looking for new suppliers.

SIGNAL 02

Channel or market expansion

Check branch, brand or territory announcements against the exporter offering.

SIGNAL 03

Trade shows and associations

Dated participation is context only; do not imply procurement interest.

SIGNAL 04

Open supplier invitation

Verify a buyer-issued application notice, eligible categories, supplier requirements and current status.

When no credible relevant source is found, the dossier should state NO_VERIFIED_SIGNAL or UNKNOWN rather than invent buying intent.

Research outputs / evidence

What should the Sales team actually receive?

Delivery volume, quality tier, contact standard and accepted gaps must be approved in the research brief.

OUTPUT 01

Importer and distributor shortlist

Verified company identities, target territory, product fit and sourcing role.

OUTPUT 02

Channel-fit explanation

Why an account is relevant and what limitations, exclusivity or competing ranges remain unverified.

OUTPUT 03

Dated evidence and gaps

Original portfolio, expansion or supplier-invitation evidence and explicit UNKNOWN fields.

OUTPUT 04

Buyer contact research

Applicable sourcing and category roles, contact verification status and questions for supplier onboarding.

Buying functions to investigate

Import / Category / Sourcing

Determine who owns category purchasing and importer requirements.

Business Development / Channel

Identify distribution partnership roles separately from inventory purchasing authority.

Procurement / Management

Review supplier approval and contractual functions where publicly verifiable.

Methodology / how it works

From seller brief to a reviewable account

  1. STEP 01

    Approve product-market brief

Confirm destination, category, distribution approach, exclusions and regulatory constraints.

  2. STEP 02

    Review country feasibility

Check source language, data access, contact visibility and handling requirements for the market.

  3. STEP 03

    Qualify target distributors

Screen company entity, products, channel relevance, territory and sourcing route.

  4. STEP 04

    Deliver verification-ready accounts

Show source/date, offer fit, channel doubts, buyer functions and next qualification question.

Fictional illustration / not a client case

Fictional distributor qualification record

This four-part example demonstrates an evidence review. It does not describe a verified account, customer project or past commercial result.

01 / Illustrative observation

A hypothetical trade distributor publishes a new product category on its public site; the company is fictional.

02 / Conditional inference

Its range could be adjacent to the exporter's category but no purchasing decision has been observed.

03 / Remaining verification

Importer-of-record role, real product coverage, commercial territory, supplier policy, exclusivity and product eligibility.

04 / Recommended Sales question

Exporter Sales checks product compliance and asks an authorized sourcing contact about supplier qualification.

FAQ

Questions to resolve before commissioning research

Can D2 research foreign importers?

An international brief can be evaluated for local sources, language, contact verification and applicable restrictions before accepting scope.

Will every distributor be looking for new brands?

No. Only a direct reliable source can support that; otherwise supplier interest is UNKNOWN.

How is this different from an importer directory?

The dossier adds product fit, channel operating evidence, buyer route, exclusions, source dates and open questions.

Does D2 provide regulatory approval or customs services?

No. Market access and product import compliance require appropriate trade or legal assessment.
